Colorado enters play on Friday 6.5-games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL Wild Card race with just 30 games to play. The San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals are also in the way of catching the Phils.

San Diego holds a three-game lead in the NL West and is currently on a seven-game losing streak. The Giants are only three games back. The Pads are also 1.5 games the Cincinnati Reds for the best record in the National League entering Friday's MLB betting action.

- Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres

Game Date/Time: Saturday, September 3rd, 4:10 ET
Game Location: Petco Park, San Diego, CA
TV/Radio Broadcast: Fox, XM

The Rockies are going to try to draw a game back in the NL West race by sending RHP Jason Hammel to the bump on Saturday afternoon. Hammel is 9-7 this year with a 4.32 ERA, numbers that are on par with his career.

What's up is strikeout total. Jason Hammel has struck out 123 batters already this season in just 24 starts. To put that in comparison, he only struck out 133 last year in 30 starts and four relief appearances.

Hammel has pitched well in his career against these Padres, going 2-0 with a 4.84 ERA. He has already beaten them recently, giving up just two runs in 6.1 innings in a 4-2 win back on July 10th.

RHP Jon Garland might still me the most consistent pitcher that the Padres have to offer this year. He has allowed three runs or less in seven straight starts, but thanks to some poor run support, he is only 4-3 in those seven. He is only getting an average of 2.57 runs of help from his offense since July 27th.

Still, on the season, there is nothing wrong with a 13-9 record or a 3.29 ERA. Though his walk total is very high with 74, Garland's WHIP is a relatively low 1.31 thanks to the fact that he is holding opposing batters to a .236 average, which is over 35 points better than his career average.

Garland is only 1-1 for his career in three career starts against the Rockies, and he has a 3.66 ERA to show for it. The one loss came in his most recent start against them, as Jon Garland allowed four runs in six innings in a loss at Coors Field on April 11th.

MLB Insider Tip: The Rockies are 6-2 in their L/8 MLB betting clashes with the Padres.

Something is wrong right now with San Diego, and the Rockies badly need to take advantage. These games this weekend could all be must wins, especially with such a small number of games left to play. Go with the Rocks in MLB betting action on Saturday night.
